The secret to packing is having the right packing materials. If you choose to do your own packing, please use our moving tips to help you get started and please be aware that if damage occurs, THE PROFESSIONALS, INC will not be responsible unless there is visible exterior damage to the carton.

When moving into your new residence you will have to place your goods away in the right spot. The PROFESSIONALS, INC can help you settle in by unpacking your cartons, and removing the packing materials. If you decide to use our unpacking service, we will gladly un-wrap your packed items and remove all packing materials from your new home.

Moving Tips

  1. Make your moving arrangements as far ahead of your moving date as possible
  2. Ensure that you understand all the terms and conditions of your contract (Bill of Lading.)
  3. If you plan to do your own packing, start well in advance of your moving date. This avoids the last minute "packing rush".
  4. Leave one box open and label it "TO BE OPENED FIRST", for items you require immediately upon your arrival at your new home (example: tools, toiletries, remote controls, phone, answering machine, etc.)
  5. Extremely fragile items such as glass, mirrors and pictures should be professionally packed or crated.
  6. Open Liquids shouldn't be shipped as they can leak and cause damage to your shipment.
  7. Pack heavy items in small boxes (example: books in 2 cubic foot boxes, pots & small appliances in 4 cubic boxes.)
  8. Label your boxes by the room you would like them moved into(example: master bedroom, kitchen, basement, garage, etc.)
  9. Label the top and sides of all cartons with your name and destination city in BOLD LETTERS for easy identification.
  10. Set up a specific area in your home for all items not to be MOVED and inform your movers of this area.
  11. Arrange to have all your major appliances disconnected and serviced before your moving date.
  12. Defrost your refrigerator and freezer the day before moving (freezers must be empty at time of loading.)
  13. Dispose of all flammables such as matches, aerosols, fuels and propane tanks before your moving date.
  14. It is not necessary to empty dresser drawers, but remove all fragile items and liquids.
  15. Carry your currency, jewelry and valuable documents with you. Movers will not take responsibility for these articles of "extraordinary value."
  16. Take your "personal" phone book and cell phone with you; you may need to make important calls during your transition.
  17. Contact your Moving Consultant 2 to 3 days prior to your move to confirm and review all final details of your move.
  18. Review the list of your goods (Inventory Form) with your van foreman and their condition at the time of loading.
  19. Make a note of your shipment registration number found in the upper right hand corner of your Bill of Lading and keep it with you in case you need to call your mover with questions about your shipment.
  20. Complete a walk through of your home with your van foreman to ensure all items have been removed (check closets, cupboards, behind doors, etc.)
  21. Before your van foreman completes loading, give him/her a phone number where you can be reached once you leave. It is VERY IMPORTANT to provide an alternative contact number in case you cannot be reached in your new home.
  22. If your move occurs during extreme weather conditions, allow your electronics to acclimatize before plugging them in at your new home.
  23. Method of Payment - unless prior credit arrangements have been made, your van foreman is required to collect payment in full before unloading. Final payment must be made by: MONEY ORDER, BANK DRAFT, CASH.
  24. Check your Inventory Forms with the van foreman as your goods are unloaded. Make sure any missing items are identified and removed from the truck before the van foreman and crew depart.
  25. Keep a copy of your contract (Bill of Lading), as most moves are tax deductible. Ask your Moving Consultant for more information.
